I knew it was true because I pulled so many court cases up that were filed in civil, not criminal court by children 13,24,15 years old…I copied them and could not understand and still don’t understand how these cases were not criminal! The police record reported as rape, but filed civil. I am so angry, when someone suggested it was done that way because they were prostitutes! Are you kidding? Thank you for all your work. I was a therapist (mostly retired now) and did thousands of hours counselling with survivors of both childhood and recent, sexual assault. I can’t imagine how three sessions with you could do more than offer some reassurance they were believed, though this is in itself a significant step toward healing. In New Zealand survivors were and are entitled to free (sometimes subsidised ) counselling for twenty to a hundred sessions and sometimes more if required. You are entirely right that survivors may slip into the same mental and emotional state they experienced the abuse in originally, as they retell a story. Legal proceedings can be retraumatising. Usually it’s better to involve a lawyer only after significant healing work has been done. In NZ and most Australian States a survivor can make an initial police complaint but ask it not be acted on until she or he is ready. This is considered legally appropriate if other children are not currently at risk. In any case I commend you for your compassion and energy and the survivors for speaking out for the sake of others. 💚🌺🇦🇺
I don’t know where you get the idea I just had 3 session with victims. Some were for years 3 times a month then they met with a psychiatrist once a month that oversaw their treatment.
If you have had the experience and took the time to watch her entire testimony/interview then you must see the validity of it. Especially after so much verification of so many aspects that have been exposed to be true by others over the many years. And you should also know that when she came forward without treatment and little support, how incredibly difficult that is for a this woman. So few victims could have done that.
I don’t give a shit about being commanded for trying to help people to understand victims behavior and dialect of expression of such trauma. If you are a life long observer of these kind of traumatized victims, you should understand the profound fear they feel in sharing their assaults. The vulnerability of recalling their errors made -as a child-. You should understand the shame they feel within. That the legal system is incredibly ill equipped to understand the complexities of these abused victims as a child victim of such assaults. And when they are treated with dignity and respect and the violators are subjected to justice, that this can help many of them to begin to heal. As you may know, many cannot ever heal from this.

I was sexually abused as a little girl by my stepfather for 8 years. So everything you wrote about, how Katie retells her story in her video, I can feel that, I know that, I am that. While Katie and I have some things in common in reference to the abuse we experienced, our situations and experiences were very different. I never had to tell my story to a court, much less the entire world, only to have them all either not believe you or make your story disappear. I am so heartbroken for Katie that in addition to all her trauma she had the world turn their back on her.

I read this post, all of it in its entirety. I absolutely without a shred of doubt believe Katie Johnson. I, however can not bring myself to watch the video. I was sexually abused as a little girl by my stepfather for 8 years. So everything you wrote about, how Katie retells her story in her video, I can feel that, I know that, I am that. While Katie and I have some things in common in reference to the abuse we experienced, our situations and experiences were very different. I never had to tell my story to a court, much less the entire world, only to have them all either not believe you or make your story disappear. I am so heartbroken for Katie that in addition to all her trauma she had the world turn their back on her.
I wish I could make Katie’s story go viral, for the world to see, but I can’t. I will however share your post and her story with everyone I know.
